NPS develops the top largest Floating Solar Farm Project of the world, to enhance the “Solar Biomass Hybrid Renewable Energy” business to support industrial customers

Mr. Yothin Dumnernchanvanit, Executive Director of National Power Supply Public Company Limited or NPS, reveals that the Company has successfully installed the Floating Solar Farm Phase 1, with a capacity of 60 MW located at the Company’s 475 Acre (1,200 Rai) reservoir, Srimahaphote district, Prachinburi province. The commercial operation will begin within Q4/2023. The Floating Solar Farm Phase 2 is in the process of installation, with a capacity of 90 MW. It will be completed within Q1/2024. At the end, the Company will have a total operating capacity from Floating Solar Farm of 150 MW, which is considered to be one of the largest floating solar farms in the world.

“Nowadays, NPS has a total installed capacity of 770 MW. It can be divided into the Biomass production capacity of 433 MW, and if combine with the 150 MW capacity of the solar farm, the Company will be able to generate the Solar Biomass Hybrid Power Generation, responding to the emerging needs of the large industrial customers who emphasize on preserving the natural fuel and environment effectively.

Along with the increase in clean energy generation, NPS also collaborated with 304 Industrial Park (304IP), setting up a company to manage the Industrial Park. The objective of the company is to integrate the development of 304IP, and to increase the capability of marketing and sales departments of the area to cover the target groups of the manufacturers domestically and internationally. The company will also provide support for the coordination with the factory installation and production of the manufacturers in 304IP to operate smoothly.

Mr. Yothin confidently states the benefit of the business reorganization of NPS, from mainly electricity generating company selling power to the the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and retail industrial customers, to be the manufacturing area management company to build the industrial park and provider of stable basic public utility including electricity, steam, and water to the industrial customers. The number of industrial manufacturers in 304 Industrial Park are emerging according to the recovery of the world economy, and the relocation of manufacturing production base to export from China, Taiwan and European countries to South East Asia affected the needs of electricity, steam, and water in the industry unit to increase. Moreover, the effective management of the experts, visionary, and experienced directors is a part of driving NPS to grow in the long term.

“The operating result in Q1/2023, NPS had a total revenue of 5,650 million Baht, an increase of 1,108 million Baht YoY or 24%. 66% of the total revenue are from industrial customers, and the rest are from the electricity sales to EGAT. With the strict control of the quality and the humidity of fuel, and the effective risk management of the coal price variation, the net profit of the Company in Q1/2023 increased to 619 million Baht. The trend of the coal price in the world market started to decrease, and the Solar Biomass Hybrid Renewable Energy generation will positively impact the overall cost of electricity generation of the Company to significantly decrease” Mr. Yothin sum up.
